“I feel empowered and
deeply grateful for the
scholarship that’s allowing
me to achieve all that is
possible with an Einstein
– Hope Miodownik, Class of 2019

Hope’s Story

My name is Hope Miodownik. I am the recipient of the 2015 Einstein Alumni Association Scholarship Award and a proud member of the Class of 2019.

I grew up on Long Island, NY, and received my bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and biology from Queens College in 2014. After months of interviewing at different medical schools, I had an idea of the kind of institution I wanted to attend: a place where the students were kind, passionate and genuine; where the faculty were invested in the students’ well-being beyond their medical studies; where every academic opportunity would be at my fingertips and I would be challenged and pushed to achieve.

After my interview at Einstein, I was confident that I had found that place. But when it came time to decide, I felt that for financial reasons I had to choose a different medical school.

Just days before my decision was due, I received an email from the Einstein Alumni Association. I was in my lab at Queens College when my phone pinged. I glanced down and saw the words “Dear Hope, Congratulations.” As I read the attached letter informing me that the Alumni Association was offering to pay a large portion of my tuition, I thought, “This must be a mistake!” Fortunately, I was wrong.

The Alumni Scholarship has truly changed my life. It has allowed me to pursue the highest levels of medical education and explore my interests within different specialties—without the need to continually consider a growing financial debt.

From the moment you walk onto campus as a medical student, Einstein alumni are present—as faculty, as mentors and as an expansive physician network that’s rooting for you and devoted to your success. Funding scholarships; donating white coats, stethoscopes and scrubs for first-year rites of passage; opening their practices for students to shadow them and explore potential careers paths—these are just some of the ways alumni demonstrate their support.

I am deeply grateful to the Alumni Association for providing incredible opportunities to students like me and for helping us realize our dreams.
